Let's hear it for the moms (and grand moms)
In honor of Mother's Day, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite images involving mothers and grandmothers. Because let's face it, mothers and grandmothers are the best.
In many ways, these are the most rewarding pictures I take.
Every time I shoot a wedding I push myself a little harder to try new techniques, to find a new and interesting angle on something I have seen hundreds of times. These pictures remind me that there is more to what I do than striving for technical perfection and creative achievement.
These are the simplest pictures I can take. See a bride hugging her mom, get it in focus, take the shot. Watch for the mother-son dance, line it up, take the shot.
Simple.
I've done it this way since I started, and I hope to do it this way for many years to come. I'm always going to push myself to get better, but I hope to never forget the simple perfection of a mother's love.
The image above, by the way, is from my very first experience shooting a wedding. That's my brother dancing with my mom at his wedding. Love you, Mom!
